    The RIO-47xxx is a smart, programmable logic controller (PLC) featuring a 100Base-T Ethernet communication rate. It is equipped with a high-speed 32-bit RISC-based DSP processor and includes 32 KB of SRAM and 256 KB of embedded flash memory for storing user applications, variables, arrays, and software updates. The controller’s internal instruction execution cycle also reaches nearly 40 µsec per instruction.

     

    Each RIO-47xxx provides multiple analog and digital I/O channels, including: 8 analog input channels, 8 analog output channels, 16 optically isolated digital input channels, and 8 high-power and 8 low-power isolated output channels (for the RIO-472xx series, all outputs from 0 to 15 are high-power isolated outputs). In addition to a default RS232 port with a communication rate of 115 Kb, this PLC also features a 10/100Base-T Ethernet port. Consequently, multiple RIO units can be connected in a distributed manner via Ethernet, enabling scalable I/O expansion.

     

    The RIO controller’s power can be supplied either via the Ethernet port (PoE) or by an external 18–36 VDC power source. Among these, the RIO-471xx series comes in a compact metal enclosure, and all signals are connected via D-type connectors. Users can conveniently and quickly connect individual signals by optionally selecting the ICS model bolt-type terminal block. Alternatively, they can connect to real-time digital simulation systems or thermocouples by installing the SCB model signal conditioning board. In contrast to the RIO-471xx series, the RIO-472xx and RIO-47300 series feature a rail-mount installation design, with all signals connected to external devices via bolt-type terminals.

    The RIO-47xxx PLC continues the programming approach of GALIL digital motion controllers, employing a simple and easy-to-learn 2-character command-based programming method. In addition, users can also create ladder diagrams using GALIL’s Ladder Interface Software.
