    The DMC-500X0 EtherCAT bus series is the latest-generation digital motion controller introduced by GALIL, a U.S. company. It not only incorporates all the features of the high-speed motion controller series but also adopts a design philosophy that emphasizes compatibility and flexibility, enabling easy integration of remotely separated EtherCAT drives through simple configuration commands to meet application requirements.

     

    The DMC-500X0 controller offers 1 to 8-axis control, with axes 1 through 4 configurable either as conventional control or EtherCAT bus control, and axes 5 through 8 configured exclusively for EtherCAT bus control. This flexible configuration approach enables customers to easily implement applications that control different types of drives using the same controller. Meanwhile, the DMC-500x0 is fully compatible with GALIL controllers’ internal servo or stepper amplifiers. In terms of programming, the DMC-500x0 provides a storage capacity of 4,000 lines × 80 characters, capable of storing 510 variables and 24,000 array elements.

     

    The PID control can be configured onto the controller or driver via software. In the first mode, the controller sends analog commands to the driver side and implements closed-loop control using GALIL’s PID algorithm. This mode shares similar PID characteristics with conventional GALIL controllers, including advanced PID compensation, velocity feedforward, acceleration feedforward, integral limit, notch filtering, low-pass filtering, and backlash compensation functions. In the second mode, the closed-loop control is implemented on the EtherCAT driver side, with the DMC-500X0 controller sending motion commands to the driver at a frequency of 2.5 kHz.

     

    Each axis port of the DMC-500X0 controller is equipped as standard with photoelectrically isolated forward and reverse limit switches and a homing function. Additionally, the controller provides 8 channels of photoelectrically isolated digital inputs, 8 channels of high-current outputs also isolated by photoelectric coupling, and 8 channels of analog inputs for connecting joysticks, sensors, and pressure transducers. Axes 1 through 4 each offer two sets of encoder input interfaces, enabling dual-loop control. The DMC-500X0 controller features a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet port and two RS232 interfaces (with baud rates up to 115.2 KB/s) for communication with PCs. Multiple EtherCAT drives can be connected in a daisy-chain topology via the EtherCAT interface on the DMC-500X0 controller, making wiring simple and reducing operation time.
