The fifth-generation high-speed DMC-18x6 PCI-bus motion controller designed by the U.S. company GALIL.

The fifth-generation high-speed DMC-18x6 PCI-bus motion controller, designed by the U.S. company GALIL, supports PTP positioning, position tracking, JOG operation, linear and circular interpolation, multi-master/multi-slave electronic gear synchronization control, gantry synchronization control, electronic cams, contour control, teach-in/playback, elliptical scaling, corner transition, unlimited linear segment feed, ratio control, and simultaneous multi-task execution for 1 to 8 axes. Users can easily configure parameters to interface with either servo motor or stepper motor drivers. The controller features forward/reverse limit switches and home return functionality, as well as eight analog input channels, optically isolated I/O ports, and a second encoder feedback interface.

Compared to the controllers in the DMC-18x0/18x2 series, this controller boasts a significantly enhanced processing speed thanks to its core processor—a high-speed RISC-based DSP. The sampling rate reaches as high as 24 μs per axis (in fast mode), the command execution cycle has been reduced from 400 μs per command to just 40 μs per command, the feedback rate has been increased from 12 MHz to 22 MHz, and the pulse rate during stepper output has been boosted from 3 MHz to 6 MHz. Moreover, the user program storage capacity has been expanded from 1,000 lines × 80 characters to 2,000 lines × 80 characters, allowing for the storage of up to 510 user variables and 16,000 array elements. The bus width is 32 bits and remains compatible with 64-bit systems. These features fully meet the new demands placed on motion controllers in the field of high-speed, high-precision machining—making even high-speed interpolation of tiny line segments or wire bonding of semiconductor components no longer a challenge.

In terms of programming, GALIL provides a powerful two-character command set and a comprehensive software package featuring terminal programming and debugging tools, enabling users to easily develop custom applications. Additionally, GALIL offers the gclib communication driver library functions and APIs, which support all current Windows versions, .NET, DOS, Linux, and other operating systems, allowing users to perform secondary development using advanced programming tools such as C/C++, VB/VC, and others.
