    Compared with the standalone motion controllers in other GALIL series, the DMC-3X01X expands the number of 100Base-T Ethernet communication ports to two. This powerful feature enables users to connect multiple controllers in a daisy-chain configuration without the need for an Ethernet hub, as illustrated in the figure below:

    The DMC-3X01X controller boasts a significantly faster processing speed than the previous-generation single-axis controller from GALIL. Its servo update rate of 125 μs is twice that of the earlier controllers, and its encoder feedback rate of 15 MHz and stepper motor command output rate of 3 MHz represent a 25% improvement over the CDS-3310 single-axis controller.

    The DMC-3X01X also boasts the high-quality performance characteristic of other GALIL controllers, such as PID compensation with velocity and acceleration feedforward, non-volatile memory for storing user parameters and programs, multi-tasking capability that allows simultaneous execution of up to four independent programs, and I/O processing functionality synchronized with external events. Its motion modes include point-to-point motion, position tracking, JOG, contouring, electronic gearing, electronic camming, and PVT.

    Multi-channel input and output: The DMC-3X01X comes standard with multi-channel input and output signals that feature opto-isolation. The I/O includes: forward and reverse limit switch inputs, a zero-return signal, eight user-definable general-purpose input signals, four general-purpose output signals, two general-purpose analog input channels, and one general-purpose analog output channel. Users can also expand the number of analog and digital I/O channels indefinitely by using GALIL’s RIO PLC.

    The DMC-3X01X features two encoder feedback channels—primary and secondary—allowing users to achieve more precise motion control by leveraging its dual closed-loop control functionality. By default, the device is equipped to receive quadrature differential encoder signals; however, absolute encoder signals conforming to the BiSS and SSI protocols are available as optional features, providing users with flexible options for diverse applications.

    The application is straightforward. The DMC-3X01X controller can operate independently offline or connect to a host computer via Ethernet and RS-232. Like all GALIL controllers, the DMC-3X01X uses GALIL’s simple, easy-to-understand, and extremely quick-to-learn two-character command language for programming—for example, BG stands for “start motion,” and ST stands for “stop motion.” In addition to allowing program development, downloading, and command execution, the GALILTools terminal debugging software also features a powerful 8-channel oscilloscope function. Furthermore, GALIL provides communication driver libraries that support all current Windows versions, .NET, Linux, and other operating systems, enabling users to easily perform secondary development and create custom controllers tailored to their specific needs.
